When was half-term again? It feels like so long ago! We have had a lovely fortnight back in school and have been extremely busy, starting our new topics and of course had World Book Day!
We have lots of school trips and visits on the horizon. If you haven't made a contribution to the trips in Foundation and Year 5/6 next week, please go on to Parentpay.

It is really important that Parents/ Carers stay in tune with the school calendar- we wouldn't want you to miss any exciting things coming up. It is on the school website and key dates are below. Please help your child to be prepared for their time in school. We have the Mother's day event and the Big Sleepover all on Parentpay for you. Please answer the questionnaire I sent to you regarding the Iftar, this will help us plan accordingly.

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE
I am sad to tell you that Mrs HIckmott will be retiring at the beginning of May. She wants to spend more time with Mr Hickmott and enjoy herself. Mrs HIckmott has worked at Abbeys for the last 3 years and for Milton Keynes Council for over 25 years! I think you'll all agree that she needs and deserves a good rest. We will miss her very much and wish her the very best for her retirement.
Over the last few weeks we have been searching for the person that will fill Mrs Hickmott's enormous shoes. We had over 100 applications for the position and I am happy to tell you that Mrs Danielle Burton- Ayres was the successful candidate. Mrs Burton- Ayres is an experienced receptionist moving to us from Romans Field school. Mrs Burton-Ayres is very familiar with Abbeys as she has 3 children here already. Hopefully, we can make this transition as smooth as possible.

We have been celebrating everything science this week.
Today we enjoyed a whole school, Science Day!
|
|
KS1 children have been making wormeries, doing some under the sea yoga, looking at how animals have adapted to their environments and been investigating what we should or shouldn't flush down the loo!
Sounds like fun?

|
In year 3/4 they have been learning about microplastic pollution and investigating how the different size sugar grains have an impact on the dissolving rate. They have also been learning all about tooth decay.
|
|
|
In Year 5/6 they have explored real-life examples of how people and things change and adapt in various environments. The students participated in a hands-on activity called 'Be a Desert Island Survivor', where they worked to change contaminated water into clean water.
In addition, we learnt about air resistance and how it affects objects in motion. To apply this, students created their own plastic bag parachutes, experimenting with how size and shape impact the parachute's descent.
It was a day of practical learning, experimentation, and observation, with everyone actively engaging in scientific processes and concepts!

For their science-themed hook day, last week, year 3/4 completed three fun activities. They had 3 stations for learning about the human body: exercise and how to check our pulse, making the digestive system with materials, and keeping our bodies healthy through food (the children made healthy pancakes and designed them, they learnt about processed sugars, natural sugars and how they affect our body and our digestion).

Well done to Ellie in Year 6. She took part in a gymnastics competition last Sunday, her team came 1st and Ellie did very well with her routines.
Great job Ellie! Keep it up!

A huge milestone for John in Foundation. He went out every day on his bike during half-term, to build up his confidence and he rode his bike to school for the first time, even though it was raining. He wasn't happy that his feet were a bit slippery on the peddles, but he showed resilience. Well done John!

Congratulations to Arnav! He took part in the U11 Youth Futsal League competition with his futsal team on Saturday in Rickmansworth and won player of the day. He scored 3 goals and assisted 1 goal. He also met a professional futsal player, Kyle from LDN Movements! Sounds like a great day Arnav!

Please would you give a shout-out to a lovely group of boys in years 5/6.
One is named Bailey R and the other boy is called Elliot.
These two boys and their friends, really do hold up the school's values and you should be proud of them. They are always so welcoming and lovely to John, who is in Foundation. They always take time to say hello to him, whenever he sees them. These boys are a great example of what positive friendships look like.
I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU ELLIOT AND BAILEY- WHAT A SUPER SHOUT-OUT

Miss Proctor has mugged the amazing Mrs Dunnett. Not only is she a fantastic colleague but she also always goes above and beyond for the children, driving the minibus and accompanying them to various sporting events. She is so patient with our children and makes forest school so much fun, which is why it is often what the children say they enjoy most about school!
Thanks Mrs Dunnett!

Mrs Brown mugged Miss Proctor. She is always putting others before herself and is so supportive in every way. She always checks in on me and is a great friend and listener.
Thanks Miss Proctor!

World Book Day has been amazing this year and the children all enjoyed dressing up and completing World Book Day activities.
For many children in Foundation this is the first time they have taken part in World Book Day. Here are some photos of some of their activities. They have been reading "Owl babies", "Giraffes can't dance" and "The tiger who came to tea". They have been decorating biscuits, making owl masks and learning how to dance.

We have had quite a few new families over the last few weeks. The school is now full in every year group apart from year 1 and year 3. This means that the school receives the appropriate funding from the local authority. It has taken a long time to get here. Thanks to all of you that have recommended Abbeys to other families- it means a lot to us.
To our new families- welcome to Abbeys! I am sure all the other Parents/ Carers will make you feel welcome and point you in the right direction if needed.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
