Welcome back everyone! We are well into January now and the children have come back [a little tired] but generally raring to go. You will have received your child's curriculum newsletter by now. This outlines the learning for the term and the homework for the next few weeks. The most important part of the homework is reading! All children should be reading 5 times per week and this should be recorded in their planners.

The start of term is always good fun as each phase plans a hook day to hook their pupils into their new topics.

Foundation Stage

Children in Tintern and Turvey have been enjoying using their Tonie box in the reading area, listening to stories together and joining in with their favourite phrases.

They have also built on their number knowledge in Mastering Number lessons and in provision by subitising and exploring numerals through number track games and building staircases to explore 1 more than the number before.

Creativity has been fantastic in the children's playdough animal creations as part of their Baa! Quack! Moo! topic. The children are on a countdown to the arrival of some hatching eggs and can't wait to care for baby chicks in a few weeks.

Ks1 are learning all about the Arctic!

The children did some research on Arctic animals, finding out about their habitats and eating habits. They have been carrying out some observational drawings too.

Year 3/4 are learning all about light and shadows. Their hook day involved experimenting with torches in the darkness, creating shadows!

I think they had a giggle!

Year 5/6 are learning all about space. Their hook day was a VR space session. They really enjoyed themselves! But were a little dizzy afterwards!

Last week we also enjoyed our annual school pantomime, Dick Whitington. It was great fun and the children were cheering and booing loudly!

We have already booked Peter Pan for next year.

This week we had a very special assembly hosted by ice hockey players from MK Lightning. They spoke to the children all about ice hockey, showed them all the equipment needed some children even got to try it on!

They will be hosting a special night for Abbeys families in a few weeks- we will send you more information when we have it!

Last year's quiz and bingo night was a huge hit and this year we will be making the event even better.

We have turned it into a house event. The highest scoring team will win the house trophy on behalf of their house!

You can book on Parentpay! More importantly, start swatting up on the news, school subjects and sports. In between the quiz there will be bingo and there will also be a raffle!

There is something for everyone to enjoy.

Tyler won gold for her floor routine and silver on the vault! Well done Tyler- you are a very talented gymnast!

Lexi has been learning to rock climb! She’s finally more confident to climb even higher! The wall is 11 metres high and she did it and enjoyed the challenge! Well done Lexi! You are very brave.

I just wanted to pop an email through and say how much I love the inclusivity at Abbeys.

Logan has come home talking about his new class mate from Ukraine. He has been talking about how he has been learning some Ukrainian as well as sign language in school. It shows the impact that the school has on the children, as Logan has come home asking to use Google translate so that he can learn some Ukrainian words, so that he would be able to talk with his new class mate.

So, a huge shoutout to the whole school for just being amazing, but also individually to every teacher, as they go out of their way to ensure every child has the best possible start to their life and their education, for them to have the same opportunities as everyone else, and to make sure that every child is included.

Proud to be an Abbeys' parent.

Thank you to everyone for their hard work.

Jo Hammett
