It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Despite the excitement, the children have been working really hard. Not only have they been enjoying their topic learning, they have been learning lines for the nativity and carol concert. All while enjoying other aspects of the curriculum, such as fire lighting in Forest school and all about our value for this month.

 KINDNESS!

Sadly, I am receiving more and more concerns regarding our pupils being in Whatsapp groups. No pupils at Abbeys should have Whatsapp. They are all too young.

Bullying that takes place on Whatsapp, outside of school is very difficult to manage, it is a parents' responsibility to check the groups their child joins as well as the content of messages.

Please model appropriate online behaviour for your children.

Our E-safety curriculum is thorough and robust. We teach the children how to behave online but when at home they are not applying the skills they know. It is very easy to make personal comments to another person online, things that you would never say in person. I am saddened to hear about the behaviour and language that is used by our pupils-  things they would not say in school.

Please encourage healthy online behaviours.

At Abbeys we offer a comprehensive range of free clubs until 4pm, these really benefits our pupils and we are proud of our offer- it is much better than other schools, who charge for 4pm clubs.

However, these clubs create a lot of additional admin for the office. Please can I ask if your child wants to take part in a club, they attend for the whole of the half-term. We have had many clubs running at half capacity, because parents are picking up their children at home time or children have decided they don't want to continue. It is unfair on other children that are unable to have a space in a club, because they are full.

Please remember that we have our Wrap Club until 6pm. Any children that are not collected on time from school will be put into Wrap Club and a late fee will be charged.

Thank you

Forest school has been very busy this week. The children have been learning to make fires.  Westminster have had so much fun this week!

They crumbled up the biscuits, chocolate and marshmallows and then Mrs Dunnett used the fire to melt it together, a bit like a s'mores pie.

Melrose have been learning all about the water cycle.

They made paper plate water cycles in Geography to explain the process of a water cycle.

Lucky Missenden!

Every class has a jar and when they work together as a class they are rewarded with a pom pom for their jar. Once the jar is full, the children are allowed a special treat!

Missenden had a pyjama party last week! It was great fun. Well done Missenden.

Missenden have also been very busy in science. They did a science experiment to show  gas bubbles that don't dissolve in oil (liquid).

It was very interesting.

Whitby have enjoyed getting a little Festive this week and have had a little visitor from the North Pole! So far he has been a well behaved Elf and brought Christmas decorations and a calendar for the class! Lucky Whitby!

BIKEABILITY

Congratulations to Mrs Brown, the year 5/6 and all the children who completed their Bikeability challenge earlier this month. Becuase we did so well the school received two awards!

'Leading Bikeability school' and the 'most improved school!'

Well done everyone - what an effort!

Thank You to Our Amazing Foundation Teachers

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for the incredible dedication in teaching the nativity songs to our children for the upcoming play.
It’s wonderful to see how you inspire them to embrace the spirit of the season through music and performance. At home, we got a sneak pick of the play it's wonderful!

We would love to give a huge SHOUT-OUT to Miss Gregory [Site manager], Catherine, our Head chef, Ms Chamberlain and Miss Oakley, for making the school look so Christmassy this year. I particularly like the glass pictures that have popped up around the school with festive scenes on them.

Well done and THANK YOU!

The lovely Mrs Sharp has mugged Mrs Clarke this week. She says that Mrs Clarke has been so supportive and helpful to her, whilst she has been finding her feet at Abbeys. Mrs Sharp is grateful to have had someone so lovely to guide her during the early days.

Thanks Mrs Clarke... I wonder who will be next?

Trips and visits

As a staff team, we value opportunities for the children to get out and about around MK and even further afield. We know that these first-hand activities are really vital for our pupils and opportunities like these enhance learning.

We always keep costs down for our families as we know that times are hard for many. The cinema trip is always a lovely experience, but there is a shortfall of around Β£230 which means that around 55 pupils from across the school haven't paid for the visit. This money then has to come from the schools budget and means we cannot pay out for other things like books or resources. This cannot continue because like many schools we are managing a very restricted budget.

If you have any thoughts and ideas on this matter. I would love to gather the views of parents/ carers- jfellowes@abbeysprimary.org
