Another great week in school and today we have recognised Mental Health Week, by wearing yellow and learning all about how we can support one another to keep our minds healthy. Did you know that 1 in 5 children have a mental health difficulty that develops before the age of 16. That's at least 5 children in every classroom! This is why we aim to provide pupils with the tools they will need if they face mental health challenges.

There is plenty of support in school for children that are struggling with mental health difficulties. From bereavement and eating disorders to anxiety and intrusive thoughts- we can only help if we are aware.
Mrs Louis White, Mrs Brown, Miss Proctor, Miss Henry and myself are all trained as mental health leads/ mental health first-aiders. If you need help, please reach out!

Parental Engagement and Parents' Evening
It is really important that parents/ carers engage with school as much as possible.
Sadly, only 3 parents attended Miss Cahill's RWI session this week, when reading is the most important element within our curriculum.
I know parents/ carers are busy but the information these sessions provide is vital for your child's development. How you support your child at home will give them a head start with their learning.
We would like to see more parents/ carers attending as it will directly benefit your child.
Parents' evening is approaching fast- please select an appointment time, following the link you have been sent.
We expect 100% attendance at Parents' evening and will work with you to find alternative times if you cannot attend.

We are on the hunt for things to improve the school and the provision for pupils. We are looking for the following:
- Winter coats, wellies and waterproofs that we can give to pupils that need help as the weather is getting colder.
- Second hand uniform for our uniform exchange.
- Books and toys- for our library, for wet play games or for our Christmas Fair.
- Teddies for our toy tombola at Christmas.
- Cushions, blankets and sensory toys for our calm space in Ks1.
- Old hanging baskets- for our Spring forest school project.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
There are a few bugs going around, and I am sure this will increase as we move into the winter months.
If your child is absent from school, it is your responsibility to let us know. You can call the absence line, or alternatively, you can complete an absence form on our website.
It is our statutory duty to safeguard pupils. If we do not know where your child is and cannot contact you, we will do a home visit and contact all other contacts on your list. It is vital that you notify us of any absence.

A huge thank you to Filip and Mrs & Mr Stoian for engraving and building our new forest school steps.

A very kind and generous donation to the school and something that will benefit all of the children. Thanks so much from all of us!

STAFFING UPDATE
I am very sad to tell you that Mrs Bromfield is leaving us. Her last day will be Friday 18th October. Mrs Bromfield is moving on to another role within education and we wish her all the very best of luck! I am sure she'll keep in touch and we will miss her dearly.
Next Friday Mrs Ahmed will be leaving to have her baby! The place won't be the same without her smile and kindness. But I am sure she'll be back. We wish you all the happiness in the world- you'll be an amazing Mum.
We have recruited Miss Ashlea Dewberry to replace Mrs Bromfield and she will start after half-term. We look forward to welcoming her to the team.
And we also have a new Minibus driver, Mr Ayres will be joining us after half term! Welcome to Abbeys.
