We have all made it safely to half-term and we are ready for a short break.
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the academic year already and halfway through my first year as Headteacher.
As usual we have had a very busy few weeks in school and all deserve a little break! See you back in school on Monday 20th February!

As you know, mental health and wellbeing is a key focus for us as a school. Not only are we embedding a more holistic curriculum to support pupil wellbeing, we are also teaching pupils age appropriate strategies to improve their own wellbeing. This includes teaching pupils to recognise and cope with big emotions and how to overcome challenges and setbacks.
This week has been Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing Week, and we have been very busy in school reflecting on our own wellbeing.

As a parent, I know how fussy children can be! Since having our school meals cooked onsite we have had a 50% increase in hot school meals. The food provided by Dolce is amazing! Not only is it freshly prepared, it can be ordered on the day and it is healthy.
Unfortunately, we are seeing quite a few unhealthy choices in lunch boxes. Please try to balance out processed food, with a healthy snack and limit chocolate and crisps. There is plenty of time to enjoy these treats at the weekend. Please also think about quantity- one packet of crisps/ chocolate bar is more than enough.
Breaktime snacks should ideally be fruit, however a small tube yoghurt, snack bar or cheese is also a suitable option.

Thursday 2nd March is World Book Day

Year 3/4 have been writing persuasive letters to their parents. Max, James and Aisha would all like new pets! I think they should be allowed them! They put forward a great argument in these letters- don't you agree?

Sydnee in Melrose class has created this pointillism art work of the Eiffel tower in Paris. In year 3/4 they have been learning about pointillism and in particular the life and works of George Seurat.
|
|
|
Max produced this lovely piece of pointillism and came to my office to show me! I love it when children pop along to share work they are proud of! It makes my day!
|
|
|
Hrithvik completed this portrait of George Seurat as part of his home learning. He used pulses, lentils and grains to create his design, in order for it to look like pointillism. Well done - it is really impressive! Everyone should give it a go!

As teachers, we like to provide lots of opportunities for collaborative working- the pupils enjoy team work and develop lots of interpersonal skills by working together. They have been completing investigations in science and in maths. It is clear to see high levels of engagement in these photos.

Years 5 and 6 have been learning about space this half-term. As part of their home learning they were able to create a model of the Solar System! Turlisa even got her Grandad involved!
Here are just a few! Well done everyone!

Mrs Dunnett has been mugged by Mr Godfrey! She has many roles within school and is certainly an active member of the team!
Mrs Dunnett, always attends school fixtures and supports our teams.
Thank you so much for all your hard work Mrs Dunnett and for always going above and beyond for our school.
You are an absolute star and Abbeys is lucky to have you!

|
Mrs Dunnett has mugged the lovely Mrs Vicarage.
Mrs Vicarage is a wonderfully caring member of the team. Not only does she support the EYFS team, she always has kind encouraging words for me as Headteacher.
Well done Mrs Vicarage!
You are a star!

SPORTING EVENTS
Last week saw year 3/4 pupils representing our school by competing in two different sporting events.
The first event was a badminton tournament at Leon School. The event was led by sports students. The children took part in numerous badminton activities against 6 other schools. The team did really well and come fourth overall. Well done to all those that took part. It was great fun, and we observed some fantastic team work.
The second fixture was a big match against our huge rivals St Bernadettes.
St Bernadettes are one of the most established primary football teams in Milton Keynes, not only this but their coach is Miss Harrison's fiancé, Matt Marchant..... So this was personal!
For their first competitive game for the school, the boys played amazingly - Jake and Alfie scored super goals. Unfortunately, we didn't win this time and therefore the wedding is off, but it was an action packed game with some excellent football! Thanks to Mr Godfrey and Mrs Dunnett for arranging these fantastic opportunities for our pupils.

SHOUT OUT!
Sean Hancock was captain for his team last weekend he scored 4 goals and got man of the match! Well done Sean! Very impressive!
Jake Freed has been working very hard with his pony and although he has lacked confidence at times he seems to have cracked it now! Well done Jake! And good luck for show season!
Tyler's Mum, Tina, has asked for a special shout out for Miss Ahmed and I couldn't agree more! It is not easy to pick up a class after Christmas but Miss Ahmed always has a smile on her face. Miss Ahmed is clearly working hard with all the children in Marham and everyone has noticed it! I really enjoyed Marham's class assembly on Wednesday, it captured the Abbeys' spirit and it was clear to see Marham are a very happy class.
I want to say a huge thank you to Harry Jones for donating lots of lovely books to the school library. We like to keep our library well-stocked. If you have any good quality books, that you no longer want, please donate them to us! Mrs Hickmott will then add them to our library system!

These sketches were drawn by Ioshua in year 5/6. What a hidden talent you have here Ioshua! These are amazing!
Ioshua is also a talented pianist and played for us in assembly today!
Thank you Ioshua!
Zoe in Fountains has been busy and is very proud of her writing. She has been using her sounds to spell out words. She has used adjectives to describe a penguin!
Well done Zoe! This is amazing work!

In KS1, the children have been learning about the Arctic in their topic 'Arctic Adventures!' They have been writing letters to polar bears and painting pictures of the Arctic. Well done everyone! Abir- this is a super letter. I can see that you are trying really hard to join your writing, use question marks and to up level your vocabulary! It's super!

Just this morning, Eva shared her lovely Arctic model with Woburn class!
Well done Eva!

As I have mentioned previously, a huge part of our staff development this year is PE and the progression of knowledge, particularly in gymnastics. Miss Henry has been practising this week with year 5/6. It looks like they have thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Takes me back to PE lessons when I went to school!

Friday 17th March is our special Mother's Day event.
All pupils are allowed to invite one special female from their life, into school for a little treat.
The event is £1.50 payable on Parentpay. If you have more than one child in school please attend the time slot allocated for your eldest child.
If you have to work or have another engagement please speak to myself or
Mrs Louis White and we will book you in for one of the other time slots.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

SAFETY FIRST
It has been brought to my attention that in the haste to leave school at the end of the day, pupils and parents are not always wearing their seatbelts.
Please be safe, take time to ensure that all your children are buckled up before you leave.
|
|
Date for your diary!
This year we will be defending our 2022 title in the Bletchley Carnival. We would like as many pupils as possible to attend as we hope to have a walking float this time!

At the start of the year, I asked every child in school to write a New Year's Resolution and they are all stuck up around my office. This was a personal challenge not necessarily related to school. Jack wanted to improve his cutting skills and he has certainly done that! Well done Jack. The first pupil in school to achieve their resolution! What an achievement!

Congratulations to all the children that took part in our Battle Of The Bands competition! 80 children took part altogether- which is more than double the amount of children that took past last year!
Here is the final leader board and the individual class results.
